Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, and damage to property or the environment arising from our gardening activities. We will identify and control risks, provide appropriate training and equipment, and continuously improve our health and safety performance.
Management is responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring that appropriate resources are available. Every employee and contractor working with Gardeners Uxbridge is required to follow our procedures and to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Legal Responsibilities
Gardeners Uxbridge will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and recognised industry standards relating to gardening and grounds maintenance. We will monitor changes in legal requirements and update our procedures where necessary to maintain compliance.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We will carry out risk assessments for our gardening tasks, including routine maintenance, planting, landscape work, use of power tools and machinery, working at height, and handling of chemicals and materials. These risk assessments will be reviewed periodically, and whenever there are significant changes to work practices or equipment.

Outdoor work exposes staff to varying weather and ground conditions. We will take reasonable steps to protect workers from extreme temperatures, sun exposure, wet or slippery surfaces, and reduced visibility. Employees should follow guidance on appropriate clothing, hydration, rest breaks and site awareness.
Traffic, Site Access and Public Safety
Many gardening tasks take place in areas that are accessible to clients, visitors and the general public. Gardeners Uxbridge will plan work to minimise risks arising from vehicles, machinery and tools in public areas. This may include safe traffic routes, signage, barriers, and timing work to avoid busy periods where reasonably practicable.
Employees must maintain good housekeeping on site, keep work areas tidy, and store tools, materials and machinery securely when not in use to prevent trips, falls or unauthorised access.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work-related ill health must be reported promptly in line with company procedures. We will investigate incidents where necessary to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Emergency arrangements will be in place for foreseeable situations such as injuries, fire, chemical spills and severe weather. Staff will be made aware of emergency procedures and the location of first aid supplies.
